The Knowledge Centre works to preserve the history, culture, knowledge and traditions of the Yolngu people of ElchoIsland. It provides for the preservation and storage of sacred objects, stories, art, objects and documents Yolngu history both pre and post European contact. It also provides for digital archive facilities.

The basis of the centre is currently being re-defined in consultation with locals, Victoria Museum, Federal Government and Elcho Arts to develop an integrated approach to cultural preservation and presentation.
