Workshop
The Galiwin'ku Community Incorporated Workshop services all vehicles on Elcho Island and also maintains all heavy machinery used by Council. With additional vehicles arriving on the Island, the workload increases each year.
The workshop and Service Station which is situated next door is managed by Toby Stevens and is open 5 1/2 days a week.
Elcho Island is a NO petrol community and therefore provides Opal. The Service Station sells Opal fuel.
The operations of the mechanical workshop come under the umbrella of Council.
Personnel: Graham 'Toby' Stevens - Workshop Manager; Damien Clayton - Serviceman; Kevin Djamila - Mechanic; Jonathon Gulurrwuy - Apprentice Mechanic; Nathan Garrawurru - Apprentice Mechanic; Warren Pickering - Workshop Administration.
Service Station
The Service Station is an annex to the workshop, it is situated in a separate building next door and has become a successful part of the business. Not only selling fuel and automotive products but fishing and camping supplies. The 'servo' has had some major changes to the building, allowing for greater access to a larger product range. Products for sale include fishing, camping and hunting supplies, homewares, gardening supplies, recreational and outdoor goods, batteries, torches, etc.
The 'servo' provides a much needed alternative for the people of Galiwin'ku and has received great support from the community.
