About Us  > Areas of Service  > Sport and Recreation and Youth Programs

The Galiwin'ku Community Incorporated is responsible for the Sport and Recreation Program and the Youth Development Program. The main role of the Sport and Recreation Program is the coordination of programs for youth to take part in healthy and constructive recreational pursuits. The Youth Development Program caters for youth at risk and boredom. They work closely together on many projects as well as the Communities Correctional and Probational Services.

With 45% of Galiwin'ku population being 19 years of age and under, it is recognised that this segment of the community requires structured activities that are delivered effectively and which in turn encompass both physical and mental stimulation.

Bith Programs are essential and are a proven vehicle for generating positive healthly outcomes and social benefits that often carry through into adulthood. Such benefits may include the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, the understanding of teamwork and the pride associated with a sense of accomplishment.

Galiwin'ku has a Drop-in-Centre where youth can go, hang out, play eight-ball/snooker, play pin ball machines, throw a ball around outside, play music or just sit and watch TV or videos. The Youth Drop-in-Centre is open daily and is managed by the Sport and Recreation staff.

During the dry season weekly movie and disco nights are held. These are very popular with youth and families.
