Our Community Newsletter "Yolngu Yarn".
The aim of the newsletter is to share the news of Elcho Island and our colourful and unique Island life in remote North East Arnhemland with the rest of Australia and the World.
The first Newsletter 'Galiwin'ku Dhawumirr Djorra' started in 2002 with the help of Sponsorship and was sold locally, it finished production in 2003.
In 2006 there was a strong demand for a newsletter to be published again, so information of news and events on the island could be passed around. With the kind help from Sponsors our new newsletter 'Yolngu Yarn' was published. The Sponsors, ALPA, Perkins Shipping, Galiwin'ku Community Incorporated, Shepherdson College, Ryans Bait & Tackle, FACPAC and Toy Man have helped produce 7 issues with a further 3 more to come. Their support has meant that enough issues are printed and passed around the Community for all to read, we thank them for their support.
In 2007/2008 a further 10 issues will be published and printed with funding from the Strategic Intervention Project through FaCSIA.
If you have a story you would like to contribute to our Newsletter or would like to advertise please Contact the Galiwin'ku Council Offices (08) 8987 9033 or email newsletter@galiwinku.nt.gov.au
Please feel free to print out our Yolngu Yarn and pass it around and maybe to email it on to your friends and family.
Happy Reading...........
